In Woburn - the family lived in Speedwell Cottages which are part ofSpeedwell Farm. At the time of the 1851 census a Henry Atterbury leasedSpeedwell Farm from the Duke of Bedford - He was farming 559 Acres &employed 24 men & 9 Boys. On a recent visit to Woburn we went an had alook where the cottages were only 2 or 3 remain but the people theretold me that there used to be another lot of houses on the top side ofthe farmhouse & originally these houses held the workers for WoburnAbbey Estate. So either Charles was working for the Duke of Bedford orfor Henry Atterbury. Sue Tapping 26 June 2006 wtapping@bigpond.net.au

Frederick Dimsdale
Synopsis from accounts in Birmingham Daily Post, The Times andIllustrated Police News between October 1877 and June 1878
Frederick Dimsdale, solicitor of 10 Curzon Street, Mayfair and C BurrellMoore of Kingston charged at Mansion House Police Court on WednesdayOctober 3 with conspiring together by means of uttering false deeds onproperty in Croydon of defrauding S Marburg of 52 Doughty Street of£15,000.
Frederick Dimsdale practiced at 39 Lombard Street.
Frederick Dimsdale then presented a petition for liquidation saying hisliabilities amounted to £230,000 and assets amounted to £130,000. Assetsincluded an interest in the Basingstoke Canal and properties in Surrey,Bucks and Middlesex. A receiver was appointed by the court. The receiverrecorded total debts as £226,430 and assets £14,979.
The case continued with additionally James Drake, a carpenter accused ofobtaining £300,000 by means of forged and counterfeit leases. FrederickDimsdale’s son Clarence Dimsdale was also found to be involved.
On Friday December 14 Lena Chester, 30, fashionably dressed was chargedwith attempting to bribe the gaolor of Mansion House Police Court byoffering him £500 to release Frederick Dimsdale.
Frederick Dimsdale was sentenced to penal servitude for life. In March1878 it was reported that Clarence Dimsdale had absconded and all hopeof apprehending him had gone. He had succeeded in escaping fromEngland.

from Old Bailey online
175. FREDERICK DIMSDALE (52) and Charles BURRELL MOORE (42) wereindicted (together with CLARENCE WILLIAM DIMSDALE , not in custody),for Feloniously forging and uttering on 16th March, 1875, a certain deedpurporting to be a lease, with intent to defraud.
The ATTORNEY-GENERAL, with. MESSRS. BOWEN, STRAIGHT, and. GRAIN,conducted the Prosecution; MR. BESLEY, with. MR. NICHOLSON, appeared forDimsdale, and MR. MONTAGU WILLIAMS for Moore.
After the. ATTORNEY-GENERAL had opened the case, MR. WILLIAMS stated.that, as far as the facts were concerned, he was unable to alter them, but, referring to the case of Reg. v. Willshire, reported in the lastnumber of the Session Paper, vol. 87, page 85, he would take the opinionof the Court whether the document in question, being signed by theparties in their own genuine names, came within the legal definition ofa forged instrument. MR. JUSTICE LOPES was clearly of opinion, that tomake a false instrument, which represented that which it was not, withintent to defraud, was a forgery, as laid down in Reg. v. Ritson, 1stLaw Reports, page 200, and supported by various dicta from works ofauthority on the subject.
The prisoners then stating that, under the advice of their Counsel, theywould PLEAD GUILTY , the. JURY. found that verdict.

Hi Paul, thank you for your reply, since I last e-mail you I have foundsome more info. David Featherstone was only a member of my family a fewshort years he left with at least 2 cousins James Oswald b 1861 andDavid Jefferys b 1864. He must have died some time after that as in 1867Catherine remarried.

Hello Paul I do not know very much about Elizabeth Featherstone exceptshe was the second wife of a William Cornelius ELSY. Joseph C ELSYappears to be called after his grandfather on his fathers side of thefamily. I do believe Elizabeth took on the children of Williams firstmarriage after his wife died but three of the children may have died in1855 do you have any information on this.

Hi Paul, Some years ago I found a connection between myself and somebodycalled Geoffrey Tuff, who I've now lost contact with). We traced each ofour trees back to a common ancestor, Peter Tuff, Bapt 28 October 1711 inBrighton. In Geoffrey's tree, there is Ann Tuff who married GeorgeRobins Featherstone, as you have said. Thanks for all the census detailswhich I didn't have, so can now add to my collection. According to thedetails from Geoffrey's tree, George and Ann had 2 sons: George andCharles John.. Charles John married Eliza (?) and they had 6 children:(1) Edwin (married Dora); (2)Annie May; (3)Emily; (4)George Joplin;(5)Edith Elizabeth and (6)Lizzie. I can give you baptism/ birth datesbut you probably have all these already. Let me know if you want them.Meanwhile, thanks for the contact. Regards Gordon 12 January 2005 (GenesReunited)

Paul (via Genes Reunited 11 February 2006)
The first time we come across is 1862 when Susannah Featherstone wasborn and married Thomas Puleston (born 1861 Fordcomb) at Sevenoaksbetween Ap/Jun 1881 Vol 2a P899.
Sussanah's Father was John Featherstone b 1842 at Brenchley who marriedHannah ??( b 1843) .Next comes William (b 1799 - Baptised 4/4/1799) whowas Johns Father : he was Born in Strood and married Frances ??( B 1804)They lived at Castle Hill Farm Brenchley with their 3 sons John (b1842), Edward (b1845) and Stephen (b1848).
Incidentally we have traced the Puleston family to the start 1n 1180 andit would be nice to see what you have on the Featherston Clan.
Yours
Dave Holland
