Weddings
Benson-Featherstone
On Saturday at 12.30 pm the marriage of Miss Mabel Benson and Rev William Thornton Featherstone, Chaplain of the Mission to Seamen and the future Headmaster of the Diocesan Boys' school was solemnized at St John's Cathedral. The bride was given away by the Hon Mr E D C Wolfe and was attended by Master Hugh Lander, youngest son of Bishop Lander. The Rev C B Shann acted as best man. The officiating clergymen were the Rt Rev the Bishop of Victoria, Dr G H Lander, and the Rev H Copley Moyle.
The Cathedral was quite full when the ceremony commenced, among those who attended being Hon Mr Claud Severn CMG and the Hon Mr W Chatham CMG. The Cathedral was tastefully decorated with palms and the service was fully choral, Mr Denman Fuller officiating at the organ. Miss Benson being a Nursing Sister in the Government Civil Hospital, a large number of nurses were also present, while many of Mr Featherstone's congregation from St Peter's Church attended, both facts bearing witness to the well deserved popularity of the bride and the bridegroom.
The Bishop concluded the ceremony by delivering a short address to the bridal pair who after signing the register left the Cathedral to the strains of Mendelssohn's Wedding March and a peal of bells.
The ceremony was over by one o'clock when the newly married couple, now Mr and Mrs Featherstone emerged from the Cathedral, to be pelted by an eager crowd with confetti. The bride looked very charming in her white silk dress, and both looked exceedingly happy on entering the waiting motor car.
It was an unique experience that Rev W T Featherstone, the bridegroom, should himself have solemnized the wedding between Miss A Ogilvie and Mr M Blake just a little over an hour previous to being married himself.
There then follows an account of the Blake-Patterson wedding.
