DAR Ancestor #A207445 His son, George Washington Featherston states that he is one of 13 children born to Burrell and Rebecca Adams. Who are the others? Is Virginia Sally 'Eliza' actually two people? That would still leave one individual to be accounted for.

In the 1836 Tax Rolls, Burrell has 3 slaves.

28 September 2012   National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Office of the Registrar General – Genealogical Division 1776 D Street NW Washington, D C 20006-5392   Attention:  Staff Genealogist   I offer the following documentation for the Lineage of John H. Featherston to Burrell (Burwell) Featherston   1.      Featherston Findings –Joyce F. Hawkins edited these volumes of information of USA Featherston’s from the late 1980’s to the late 1990’s, 20 volumes were produced. Joyce gave permission to reproduce these volumes on the Featherstone Family Society, a Society founded by 5 English researchers in 2002 and continues to gather information worldwide including a Featherstone DNA project.  The site has grown to some 7,000+ pages and was last updated on 25 August 2012.  Posted on the Featherstone website is the lineage of John H. Featherston (1810-) to his father Burwell (Burrell)  Featherston Jr. (1784-1879) and mother Rebecca Adams (1788) .  Page attached.  Never has this connection between John H. and Burwell Featherston been questioned. 2.     Ancestry.com—At Least fifty one family trees have John H. Featherston with father Burwell Featherston.  Of that number, 8 have mother as Rebecca Coleman and 47 have mother as Rebecca Adams; some list mother as Rebecca (Adams) Coleman. The son, John H. Featherston,(date of birth reported between 1807-1810) is never listed with another father. The possibility does exist that Rebecca is Burrell’s second wife but no proof found.  The marriage was documented in Burrell’s 1812 Pension Application.  3.     In addition to civil records which I have examined, there are multiple family lines associated with the Featherston family.  I have examined their materials carefully; i.e Hightower Family Genealogical Database Copyrighted Database with 124,483 entries; updated 9/21/2012  Anthony Rockefeller trock127@cox.net.  This database includes references to Constance Moretti, DAR #A207445 with whom I consulted as well.   Pressgrove database and family history and others such as Ruth B. White Research, Jane Anglen Clark Stryker.  Only White suggests that Rebecca may be second wife of Burrell.    4.     Both Burrell and John H. are documented in the Bedford County Deed book as living in Bedford County, Kentucky with property in 1830.  In 1840 both families are living in Robertson County but continue to have property in Bedford County,Tennessee.  1850.  Page number and excerpts attached. John wife Nancy Pressgrove is also documented with proof of marriage in Bedford County Land Records (attached)   however no date is given.  Unable to document exact date. The date of marriage can be assumed to be about 1826 or 1827. If John were born in 1807 he would be about 20 years of age and Nancy his wife about age 19.  5.     Burrell Featherston was awarded two 1812 War Land Bounty Grants (attached).  Burrell’s family and his  son John H’s moved their families to Illinois.  Other members of the family also moved to Illinois in nearby county.  In the 1850 U.S. Census in Becks Creek,Shelby County, Illinois are listed three generations of this Featherston Family.  (See Attached).  In Dwelling 905 is Burel Featherston and spouse Rebecca; in Dwelling 911 is son John H. Featherston head of family with Burrell’s grandson Andrew.  Andrew is also listed separately living in the same household but as head of family with wife Elvira.  Rebecca, John’s mother, died 4 Feb 1852 and is buried on son William’s  farm according to Elias McFadden Morgan’s Day Books (copy attached).  These three Featherston families  are the only Featherstons living in Shelby County, Illinois in 1850.  William, another son of Burrell and Rebecca is living in border area between Clinton and Madison County, Illinois.  This listed in the Morgan Day Book was the source for the Red River information and led to the incorrect date of Burrell’s death.  The Burrell listed is actually the son of John Belfield.  The cemetery could not be located despite a visit to Illinois.  6.      Birth and death dates for John H. Featherston : John has dob 1810 in 1850 U.S.Census.  1804 in 1860 U.S. Census and 1807 in the 1870 and 1880 U.S. Census. Therefore I revise my date of birth given as circa 1809.  Both John and Nancy are recorded in the 1880 US Census living with my ggrandfather (CC Featherston) in Hickman County,Kentucky.  My ggrandfather left Hickman County, Kentucky in about 1888 to emigrate to Missouri.  My assumption is that he did not leave until after the death of his parents.  Therefore my revised date of death is post 1880.  7.     Birth and death dates for Burrell (Burwell) Featherston.  See attached transcribed article from'The Clarion Ledger', Jackson Daily News (Mississippi) Sunday, February 17, 1980.  Respectfully submitted   Ellen Elaine Featherston Boston DAR #854434
