John & Margaret were 22 years of age each according to their Marriage Certificate when they got married. John's occupation was that of a wool factory worker and Margaret's was a laundry worker. JOHN FEATHERSTONE WAS IN THE KINGS OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS REGIMENT HE WAS A PRIVATE,AND HE SURVIVED THE FIGHTING AT HILL 60 AND THE BATTLE OF MARNE BEFORE INJURING HIS LEG AND HAVING IT AMPUTATED IN THE MILITARY HOSPITAL AT NESTON. He only had one leg - lost it in the war - story is "He shot himself in the foot" and it turn gangrene. Jill Biddle (his Great Grand-daughter) tells of a story of John and the Hawick Common Riding Festival which is an annual event in Hawick . John used to be on security at the time of the Common Riding but was always drunk. He went on some ride and got his false leg stick and the emergency services were called. Apparently this was very commo n for him.
