  	Wagon Trip to Indian Territory In September of 1863 my grandparents, James and Diadem Featherstun, and my Aunt Verda, age 3 years at the time, left Missouri and travelled to Indian Territory to take part in the Land Run. They used horses and a wagon to go to this area, then known as the Cherokee Strip, which later became the state of Oklahoma.  While there,  my grandfather set up his barber chair.  This chair may have been a couple of boxes -- I doubt if he had a chair with him.  A few of the people started ahead of time and and became known as Sooners, which name is now used by the University of  Oklahoma football team. I guess that shortly after the race, my aunt Verda became ill, and she and my grandmother went back to Missouri by train, while my grandfather took the horses and wagon.  In going down there, it was a dry season, and they had trouble finding water for the horses.  There were horse thieves there -- most of the good guys probably stayed home.  Horse thieves and barbers went down there.  In any case, my mother told the story that they kept the horse in their tent at night.  I doubt that they had such a big tent, but that's what she said. While in Missouri, my grandfather cut the hair of Frank James, who was the brother of Jesse James.  I think I have my grandfather's scissors here at home.
